How to Survive the Holidays

How to Survive the Holidays

Here at Corder and Company, we wanted to provide a holiday guide on "How to Survive the Holidays?"

The holidays mean family, friends, feasting, and fun, but for many people, they can bring on depression, sadness, and excessive stress. Here are some ideas for making the holidays a little easier.

  • Have realistic expectations and goals for the holiday season.
  • Make a list and prioritize the most important activities. This can help make holiday tasks more manageable.
  • If you are lonely, consider volunteering and helping others.
  • Enjoy free holiday activities, such as looking at holiday lights and decorations, going window shopping, or just taking a walk through your neighborhood.
  • Pace yourself, and don’t take on more responsibilities than you can handle.
  • Don’t try to make everything perfect. It’s all right to have decorations up or have none, to invite people over or go to them, use the fancy china or use paper plates and plastic forks.
  • Try something new or creating a new holiday tradition that is yours alone.
  • Spend time with people who are supportive and caring.
  • If you’re feeling depressed, consider limiting your alcohol consumption, since excessive drinking can increase those feelings.
  • Contact a long-lost relative or friend and spread some holiday cheer.
  • Set a budget for holiday spending and stick to it. Overspending can lead to extra stress and depression when the bills arrive after the holidays.
  • Take care of yourself. It’s ok to make yourself a priority!

Happy Holidays from Corder and Company and we hope you have a great New Year!
